About Us

Why are we so passionate about teaching our new concept of family literacy?

THE FAMILY LITERACY PROJECT

The Family Literacy Project™ is a program of Skyline Research Institute (SRI). Founded by expert communicators, family researchers and storytellers, the Family Literacy Project has been created to help people of all ages grow in the ability to discern, analyze, and begin to see the world through the family lens (what SRI has uniquely reframed and reconceptualized as family literacy).

The Institute works to advance and promote this new and innovative conceptual framework on the family by providing training and resources to help individuals, universities, and organizations provide the best tools to understand the complex roles that the family plays in human experience.

The Family Literacy Project provides educational opportunities and resources for how to recognize, understand, and analyze family influences in contemporary life through the intersecting sub-themes of marriage, gender, motherhood and fatherhood.

Using a family lens through storytelling paves the way for cross-disciplinary collaborations to explore the complex and critically important roles that the family plays in our contemporary world.

Mission & Vision

With extraordinary influence on past, present, and future generations, the family remains the most powerful influence on the life of every human being. It is the most important social institution. It is the family that shapes the human personality. Within the family, the spiritual, cultural, and social experience of previous generations is being shaped and shared.

The success of society largely rests on the strength of the family as a basic unit of society and the natural environment for the growth and well-being of all its members, particularly children.

The Family Literacy Project measures our success by how well we are able to advance the public understanding of marriage and family across multiple sectors, creating new opportunities and resources for students, professionals and life-long learners to develop, critically reflect and act upon a deeper understanding of this fundamental unit of society.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to advance and promote family literacy by providing training and resources to help individuals understand why the family is the fundamental unit of society and to grow in the ability to discern and analyze the fundamental intersections of the family within social, political and cultural life through the “family lens.”

We work to advance our innovative conceptual framework on the family by providing training and resources to help individuals, universities, and organizations provide the best tools to understand the complex roles that the family plays in human experience.

OUR VISION

The Family Literacy Project’s vision is to encourage a renaissance of successful marriages and family life in which all human life is valued and families flourish.

With improved family literacy, people of all ages will be able to see how family influences are found in all dimensions of culture; how important stable family life is to individual and social well-being; and that world religions have a shared understanding about the importance of the family.
